Urbana House Show (31 January 2010)

JigGsaw played at a house party in Urbana this Saturday. Luckily for me, the house was a stone’s throw from my apartment.

I decided to bring over my fisheye and shoot a roll of film at the party.

Big Night Out (25 January 2010)

Every year on January 22nd Eddie and I have a big night out in honor of two occasions. The first, is Eddie’s birthday. The second is the anniversary of when we first met four years ago. It’s rather convenient having these both on the same day and it makes the day that much more special.

This year, Eddie and I met with Hunka, Kendle et al. for drinks at Boltini. Then we walked over to Jim Gould’s for dinner and live jazz. The dinner was perfect, as always. I had a filet and Eddie had the Chicken Picata. At one point during the meal, Eddie pulls out a box from under the table and slides it over to me. I open it and find a beautiful bezel set diamond necklace! He had been hiding this from me all evening…very sneaky!

I wish we had pictures from our big night out, but in their absence, this collage will have to do. I received several compliments on my dress and clutch, so I figured I would post what I was wearing that night.

Clockwise from top left: Fully Fashioned French Heel Stockings, Onyx Stud Earrings (Tiffany’s), Silk Bouquet Clutch (Santi), Platform Heels (Kate Spade), Navy Blue Devoré Hearts Dress (Marc Jacobs), Rhinestone Hair Pin à la Natalie Wood, Bezel Set Diamond Necklace, Leather Gloves, Raccoon Collar Coat* (DKNY), 1940s Vintage Style Makeup and Hair

*Not exactly what mine looks like, but it’s the same style.

Note: I’m usually not the type of girl who is into heart motifs, but I was really drawn to this dress. The navy is so dark it’s almost black, which helps to tone down the hearts. It’s hard to tell, but the yoke is sheer like the illusion necklines I love. I really like the way it fits and it was feminine without being childish or cutesy.

    JigGsaw @ WEFT Fest (11 September 2009)

    jigGsaw @ WEFT Fest

Last Saturday, jigGsaw played a short set for WEFT Fest, the annual fundraiser for WEFT 90.1 FM. The event was originally scheduled to take place outside on the Mike and Molly’s patio. However, the rain made that impossible, and they moved the last few bands next door into the WEFT studio. Even though everyone was looking forward to being on the patio, the studio was still a lot of fun. There was some concern as to how loud things were going to get, but that soon passed. The room where they played was lined from floor to ceiling with CDs, which (surprisingly) helped to deaden the sound.

Given all the changes and disorder that went on before the gig, I’m surprised that things went as well as they did. I think everyone had a good time; still I hope that WEFT Fest gets some better weather next time around.

    MissAnthro on Apartment Therapy

Apartment Therapy, the awesome community driven interior design blog, featured one of my photos today! The article is about Fiestaware collections, and they chose to run my photo as the main image for the entire post. Being an established reader and fan of Apartment Therapy, it’s a great feeling to see one of own photos displayed on their front page. Combined with the knowledge that many more people across the world will also see my photo makes for a very exciting day here at MissAnthropolgoy.com.

Thanks again to Apartment Therapy for choosing to run my photo!

    France Gall (8 September 2009)

I came across France Gall when I was looking up some old Scopitone videos on YouTube. Gall had quite a long singing career that spanned over thirty years. In 1966, Gall became a controversial public figure when her single “Les Sucettes” (“Lollipops” in English) was released. At the time, she was too young and naïve to understand the double meaning of her lyrics, which were written for her by Serge Gainsboug. Upon realizing the meaning of the lyrics, Gall reportedly was “mortified, hiding herself away for weeks, refusing to face anyone”.

Here are a few of my favorite France Gall videos. You may recognize the song, “Laisse tomber les filles” (“Forget the Girls” in English) since the same music was used by the American group April March in their song “Chick Habit”. Again, Gall’s lyrics were composed by Serge Gainsbourg, as were most of Gall’s early songs. Having her lyrics written by a middle aged man made the message of Gall’s songs far different than those of her fellow teenage pop stars. This is especially true of “Laisse tomber les filles”.

    A Lovely Address File (1 September 2009)

When I first discovered this handmade file from lovelydesign, it was backordered and then temporarily discontinued. However, I decided to put myself on the wait list in hopes that they would eventually be brought back. After months of waiting, Sharilyn (the creator of the address file) contacted me saying that she had one ready just for me!

My lovely address file arrived the other day and it was definitely worth the wait. I think it will make a nice home for my recipes, which are currently scattered all over the place.

If you would like an address file of your own, contact Sharilyn directly at sharilyn[at]lovelydesign[dot]com. You will be put on the wait list, but don’t worry because it’s completely worth it! Also, please make sure you are doing business through lovelydesign and Sharilyn, because I have seen many imitators on Etsy.

    Goodbye, Leopard (28 August 2009)

    Installing Snow Leopard

What a good way to spend a dreary afternoon; installing Snow Leopard.
Total install time was only 33 minutes, but I did erase and format my hard drive before the installation.

So far, Screen Sharing is so much faster. Also, the new Mail.app makes it much easier to set up your email account. All I had to do was enter my GMail login info and hit “Next”. Mail knew that I was using IMAP and not POP3 and started to download all of my mail from the GMail server. So much easier than before.

Also – QuickTime 10 has the ability to record screencasts! I’ve never needed to make a screencast, so I’m not sure why I’m excited about this. Nonetheless, it seems like a nice feature that some people will probably use quite a bit.
